A distanza di cinque anni dalle sessioni di ‘Maniscalco meets Gibellini’, che ha visto per la prima volta insieme su disco il leggendario chitarrista jazz Sandro Gibellini e il polistrumentista/compositore Emanuele Maniscalco, Ritmo&Blu Records ospita nuovamente i due musicisti per il loro secondo, nuovo album.
The Boy Next Door” è la rivisitazione di standard del jazz, in una chiave che si colloca esattamente a metà tra tradizione e sperimentazione. Lo stesso accade al duo, tra continuità ed evoluzione: in questa occasione, la collaborazione è stata estesa ad un trio con Giulio Corini, uno dei più ricercati contrabbassisti italiani, con il quale i due collaborano già da molti anni.
‘The Boy Next Door’ è stato registrato live nell’ottobre 2020, direttamente su un registratore a nastro MCI JH110 da Stefano Castagna attraverso la consolle Solid State Logic 6072 in una catena completamente analogica.
La maggior parte della scaletta è proposta in una classica formazione chitarra-contrabbasso-batteria, mentre tre brani sono affidati al trio con il pianoforte al posto della batteria. La scelta delle composizioni spazia da Kern a Jobim, passando per brevi e suggestivi interludi improvvisati che fungono da elementi complementari alla narrazione sonora del trio e mettono in luce la sua vena più sperimentale.
